Cancun, Mexico – I’ve been visiting Cancun since my adolescent prima donna days. One of my Mother’s favorite stories to tell about me took place there. When I tell you I matured quickly, I’m speaking the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. Most people pass their driving exam prior to experiencing the repercussions of over-indulging in alcoholic beverages, but that wasn’t the case for me. I had my first hangover at the young age of six. Assuming the waiter knew better than to serve alcohol to a booster-seat graduate who could barely see over the white plastic table, I ordered a Margarita (better yet – a Margawita). Eight sips later, I was tugging at my moms t-shirt, informing her that we needed to take a trip to the little girl’s room. I wanted to be a big girl, so I told my Mother to wait outside the stall. When her motherly instinct told her I had been in the bathroom for too long, she opened the door. What’s behind door number 1? A drunk six-year-old girl hanging half way off of the pearly white toilet slurring, “Mommy!”
Fast forward twenty years – my Mother and I decided a mother/daughter trip was long overdue. We needed some major quality time together (and a tan), so Cancun was at the top of our list. We spent a week at The Ritz Carlton under the blazing sun. In my opinion, the Ritz is the best hotel to stay at in Mexico. The staff is gracious and attentive, the food is prepared to perfection and there is live entertainment in the lobby at night. What more could a girl ask for? Nada Lotta.
My favorite places in Cancun:
Our trip was wonderful. I got to spend six days with my best friend drinking margaritas (LEGALLY) while not experiencing acute hangovers. My tan is the best it’s ever been and the two pounds I put on were fully worth it. I love you Cancun – CHEERS.
